India is a democratic republic state. Here the Government is of the people, by the people and for the people. Participation, transparency, legitimacy and responsiveness form the pillars of good governance. There is a close link between Right to Information and Good governance.
Good governance has 8 major characteristics such as participatory, consensus- oriented, accountable, transparent, responsive, effective and efficient, equitable and inclusive and follows the rule of law.
It assures that corruption is minimized, the views of minorities are taken into account and that the voices of the most vulnerable in society are heard in decision-making. It is also responsive to the present and future needs of society. It makes the government work effective, credible and legitimate in administrative system and citizen-friendly, value caring and people-sharing.
Digital India is instrumental to pioneer Good Governance. It can be attained through e- Governance which can ensure transparency and efficiency
